Kindergarten students have been introduced to a few programs; Sammy's Science House, Millie and Baily's Playhouse and now Kid Pix. They will be encouraged to decorate a Xmas tree, a menorah or a winter scene using the Kid Pix tools. Each student will work independantly on this first project of the year. I call them projects because they will print out their final draft.

1st graders will re-familiarize themselves with the program Kid Pix. They too will be encouraged to create a project for the Holiday or a winter scene. Their project will include two sentences which will use the writing tools.
2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students have been working on a couple of keyboarding programs. They were timed on the Sponge Bob typing program. I gave them their words per minute score just for fun. We tested only on the home row keys.
3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students had to take math and reading tests on the computer. They were accompanied by their classroom teacher. This M.A.P. testing is being piloted by a few schools in our district. It is a very calm testing environment.
2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students are also working on a KidPix project. They can choose to do a Xmas scene, Hanukkah or winter scene. They will include some text to go with their scene. |

We will strive to complete our first newspaper of this new school year by the end of November. I have begun to pick out some reporters and photographers for the first issue.

The 3rd graders in room 11 have been corresponding with professionals from IBM. One of the students was sent a picture. All of the children in room 11 got to share in his excitement. This is a great way for us to communicate through emails. It is fun for the students to share their interests with these caring adults. We just shared what we did for Halloween.

I have been working with computers in a computer lab environment for the past 25 years...
Our goal is for all students to gain confidence with the keyboard and all other components of the computer. With the help of carefully selected software and internet programs we are sure that all students will have a positive independent experience in our computer lab!
