| 1 | Phase I : First Pilot Group (Proof of Linux as our one-to-one OS)
Ten teachers were selected to participate as the first group to each receive a class set of Lenovo R60 SuSE (SLED 10) Linux laptops in carts. The teachers and students received the laptops in March 2007 and have provided valuable feedback as now even new student classes have used the laptops. We plan to follow this trailblazing group of teachers with their students for the entire 2007-08 school year.

| 2 | Phase II: Second Pilot Group and the Development of a School-based Linux Laptop Cart as a District Standard
Twenty teachers were selected to participate as the second group to each receive a class set of Linux laptops (now Lenovo R61) in carts. The students received the laptops the week of February 12, 2008 with our new build 2 of SuSE Linux SLED 10. We plan to follow this second group of teachers with students for the spring semester and the entire 2008-09 school year. This group will also benefit from a larger budget for professional development through Ed Tech's One-to-One Learning Academy.
It is expected that the Lenovo Linux R61 (current model priced at $697) will become a district standard laptop before the 2008-2009 school year and will be bundled in laptop carts of 20. What will make this solution different, is that schools wanting to purchase these laptops will need to agree to participate to at least at an entry level of teacher professional development from Ed Tech's One-to-One Learning Academy.

| 3 | Phase III: A Home to School Program
"The future is here. It's just not evenly distributed yet." William Gibson
Phase III is the vision of this Initiative as we work towards providing district laptops that students put in their backpacks and use at home and school. Over time, up to 133,000 K-12th grade students could be using progressive laptops in their daily learning activities.

| 4 | One school at a time: hardware options for schools moving to always-on learning
Each school in the district strives to make a difference for the students they serve. From the initial work of this Initiative, it is hopeful that individual school communities will embrace one-to-one learning as one means to increase student achievement at their local campus. It is in this spirit that we present one-to-one computing ideas and options for elementary, middle and high schools to assist schools seeking to move in this academic direction.
