This course provides entry-level training for students interested in medical occupations: fire fighter, paramedic, EMT, doctor, nurse, sports medicine, life guarding and a variety of medical occupations. Job skills training and preparation and career exploration is an integral part of this course. Through a partnership with a multitude of organizations and guest speakers to include San Diego Fire, Police and Lifeguard Departments, San Diego Emergency Medical Enterprise, STAR/PAL and Border Patrol Agents, to name a few, their participation is an integral part of showing students the possiblilities that lie ahead. Subjects taught include but not limited to: CPR & AED training, vital signs, bandaging, patient assessment, legal and ethical issues, preventing disease transmission, emergency response, lifting and moving patients, airway obstruction, first aid and bleeding control. Students use equipment including computers, mannequins, blood pressure cuffs, stethoscopes, splints, bandages, defibrillators and stretchers.
